PRIVATE PILOT COURSE
The private pilot certificate (much like a driver’s license) is the first step for those interested in learning to fly. Private pilot training can be fun and challenging. New pilots must learn a wide variety of skills starting with acclimating their inner ear to teach the brain that you are now living in a three dimensional world. As a private pilot you will be able to fly an airplane and carry passengers (but not for hire). At Tex Air America we are focused on individualized attention and student success. Students will receive highly customized training by friendly and experienced professionals.
Prerequisites:
Be able to read, write, and speak English.
3rd Class (or higher) FAA Medical Certificate before solo flight.
At least 16 years old by first solo flight and 17 years old by the check ride
Be committed to weekly availability ensuring at least two flights or ground activities per week OR 5-7 weeks of accelerated INTENSIVE TRAINING.
Class Structure:
Each lesson includes a combination of ground school & flying. Lessons are scheduled in 2 hour increments or choose our accelerated intensive program.
Time Commitment: National Avg. 55-70 Hrs
Hourly lessons usually completed in 5-6 Months

FAA Private Pilot Course Information:
AIRPLANE SINGLE ENGINE LAND (ASEL)
40 hours of flight time that includes 20 hours of flight training from a highly qualified authorized instructor and 10 hours of solo flight training.
DUAL FLIGHTS include three hours of cross-country flight training and three hours of night flight training including one cross-country flight of over 100 nautical miles total distance; and 10 takeoffs and 10 landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport. Three hours of flight training on the control and maneuvering of an airplane solely by reference to instruments, including straight and level flight, constant airspeed climbs and descents, turns to a heading, recovery from unusual flight attitudes, radio communications, and the use of navigation systems/facilities and radar services appropriate to instrument flight. Three hours of flight training in preparation for the practical test (which must have been performed within the preceding 2 calendar months from the month of the test).
SOLO FLIGHTS include 10 hours of solo flight time consisting of at least-- 5 hours of solo cross-country time; one solo cross country flight of 150 nautical miles total distance, with full-stop landings at three points, and one segment of the flight consisting of a straight-line distance of more than 50 nautical miles between the takeoff and landing locations; and three takeoffs and three landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport with an operating control tower.
